When The World Ends
When the world ends
Collect your things
You're coming with me
When the world ends
You tuckle up yourself with me
Watch it as the stars disappear to nothing
The day the world is over
We'll be lying in bed
I'm gonna rock you like a baby when the cities fall
We will rise as the building's crumble
Float there and watch it all
Amidst the burning, we'll be churning
You know, love will be our wings
The passion rises up from the ashes
When the world ends
When the world ends
You're gonna come with me
We're going to be crazy
Like a river bends
We're going to float
Through the criss cross of the mountains
Watch them fade to nothing
When the world ends
You know that's what's happening now
I'm going to be there with you somehow, oh...
I'm going to tie you up like a baby in a carriage car
Your legs won't work cause you want me so
You just lie spread to the wall
The love you got is surely
All the love that I would ever need
I'm going to take you by my side
And love you tall, ‘til the world ends
Oh, but don't you worry about a thing
No, 'cause I got you here with me
Don't you worry about a
Just you and me
Floating through the empty, empty
Just you and me
Oh, graces
Oh, grace
Oh, when the world ends
We'll be burning one
When the world ends
We'll be sweet makin' love
Oh, you know when the world ends
I'm going to take you aside and say
Let's watch it fade away, fade away
And the world's done
Ours just begun
It's done
Ours just begun
We're gonna dive into the emptiness
We'll be swimming
I'm going to walk you through the pathless roads
I'm going to take you to the top of the mountain that's no longer there
I'm going to take you to bed and love you, I swear
Like the end is here
I'm going to take you up to
I'm going to take you down on you
I'm going to hold you like an angel, angel
I'm going to love you
I'm going to love you
When the world ends
I'm going to hold you
When the world is over
We'll just be beginning...
[I'll see you one of these days. Probably not this week. Maybe next. Who knows? Time will tell. I don't feel like writing. If you feel like it, you write. There are times you don't feel like sharing. This is one of those.]

Veen on Web Standards
Jeffrey Veen, a specialist in innovative Web techniques and a partner in the firm Adaptive Path writes about The Business Value of Web Standards. How many more voices must shout out loud that this is the only sane way to deal with Web development? Must sites fall apart before some thickheaded people realise that?
Nielsen on Usability
Jakob Nielsen is a usability guru whose opinions usually generate great discussion. I must say I don't fully agree with him at times, but his Alertbox on the Misconceptions About Usability makes an excellent case. This is a great piece of writing from a renowned specialist. You can use it to try and convince some thickheaded people (the same people as above) of the benefits of usability.

Last week
So I was not around last week. I took a rest from my usual working life. I rested a lot, thought a lot, went to the beach less than a lot, didn't win the lotto, didn't go to the movies, didn't go to the theatre, didn't travel, played tennis, went to the gym. Anyway, I am back.
Last Thursday - Sept 11
Last Thursday marked the second anniversary of September 11th. I'll never forget that date, because, as I wrote last year, I had just arrived from the United States. Every time I see the images of the attacks, a chill runs down my spine. Enough. Respect. Silence.
Last Thursday - Web Standards Meeting
Last Thursday took place the first Portuguese Web Standards Meetup. Participants: André, Bruno and Pedro. Over two hours of discussion flew by, and it seemed we were only getting started. We touched numerous topics in this short time. Besides Standards, we talked about Usability, Accessibility, Management, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, and many others. Ideas abound. You'll hear from us soon.
[PT] A semana passada
Chega. Respeito. Silencio.
Quinta feira passada - Encontro Web Standards
As ideias abundam. Mais noticias em breve.

Away
Sorry for not updating the site last week, but I have been on holidays, away from my computer. I'll be back tomorrow to talk about the first Portuguese Web Standards Meeting. In the meantime, read what Bruno wrote about it.

Big Brothel
The fourth edition of the Portuguese Big Brother television show has started this week (will... not... link!). I don't like it, but do not question it's existence. Well, maybe I do, but I won't say it. There is one good thing has come from these shows; without them, this excellent book by Ben Elton wouldn't exist. But here's the dilemma: To fully enjoy the book, you have to know how the show works, or at least have watched some of it. I have watched some of the earlier editions of Big Brother, read the book, loved it, so now I can just...

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find out what it means to me
Customer service should be taken very seriously if you want to succeed in business. Portuguese companies (and their managers) should get this into their know-it-all-customers-are-stupid-cattle heads. Kelley Robertson has written a very good article about this. He highlights four strategies that will keep your business going. It's easy. So why do most companies ignore this? (via andrerib)
[PT] Big Bordel

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find out what it means to me"
(via andrerib)

Web writing
Writing for the Web is a whole different game as writing for any other media such as print. Nick Usborne, an expert on writing for the Web, has started a weblog. Now, besides his excellent newsletter Excess Voice, Nick shares his thoughts on yet another form. He will be a guest speaker at User Interface 8. Catch him if you can. I sure will try.
