An interview with Lou Rosenfeld and Steve Krug on user experience consulting. They are great authorities on Usability and Information Architecture, and have written about it two of the best books out there. This one and this one. They are on a seminar tour in the U.S., and we just hope they can be persuaded to come to Europe soon. We, web developers, will be grateful.

Ouch

Easter was fine. But the rest is gone. Last Thursday I went against an unmarked glass panel at work and cut my forehead (3 stitches), hurt my nose and had a big big scare. I'm better now, though still feeling a little weak. I bumped my head, so never mind if I act strangely for a few days...

A Páscoa foi boa. Mas o descanso já lá vai. Na quinta-feira passada choquei contra um painel de vidro não assinalado e cortei a testa (3 pontos), magoei o nariz e apanhei um grande grande susto. Já estou melhor, apesar de ainda me sentir um pouco fraco. Bati com a cabeça, por isso não liguem se o meu comportamento for um pouco estranho durante uns dias...

Querem fazer-me sentir melhor? :-)

I am having a long and much deserved weekend. The next four days will hopefully recharge my batteries for the work ahead. But, as always, I have a pile of articles to read. Here are three:

Today I took the subway to work. In the group of six people near me, 4 were reading. Not magazines or brochures. They were reading books. That, in Portugal, is not common. I know this is not the rule, but still it's a good sign. Apart from me, the other 3 were women (do women read more than men?). One was reading a book called "How to stop your doctor from killing you". Scary. Another was reading a book by Mia Couto, a great writer from Mozambique. The third one was reading a book covered with a light blue paper. I wonder what she had to hide...

Hoje fui de metro para o trabalho. Do grupo de seis pessoas que viajavam perto de mim, quatro estavam a ler. Livros, não revistas ou brochuras, o que em Portugal não é comum. Sei que não é a regra, mas de qualquer forma é um bom sinal. As outras três pessoas, que não eu, eram mulheres (será que elas lêem mais que eles?). Uma delas lia um livro chamado "Como impedir o seu médico de o matar". Assustador. Outra lia um livro de Mia Couto. Excelente. A terceira lia um livro, forrado a papel azul claro. O que teria ela a esconder?

standards on a multi million page view site? yes, indeed.

Eric Meyer conducted an Interview With Mike Davidson of ESPN. He explains how this huge site managed to make the shift to standards, and the difficulties encountered along the way. It's filled with real world examples and useful ideas. Really worth reading.

Between translating a couple of articles by two of the biggest voices on the web, Molly Holzschlag and Jeffrey Zeldman, reading Information Architecture, re-reading Don't Make me Think, and doing my daytime job, I'll either go mad or start reciting ISO standards while I shave. Errrr... Is there a difference?
